Step 5: Get your tax benefit.You will be given an official receipt showing the particulars of the car you donated. It should include the date you donated the vehicle, your name, address, and the name and contact information of the charity. Keep this receipt on file for as long as you keep your tax returns for that year. Be sure you ask the charity how to value cars and/or where on the Internet you can estimate the car donation value.
